Final projects and job searching

Usually when I’m writing my blogs I have a story to tell. But this time I really don’t have a specific story. It’s more about feelings. I’m currently working on my final project for the bootcamp and it’s so much fun! And I have a great team-mate whom I’m learning a lot from and also having a great time working with, and our project has been going really well so far! I’m so looking forward to see our finished product.

So that’s the exciting part. During this sprint I’ve also started to apply for jobs, which also has been exciting but at the same time a real roller coaster. I’m finding so many job posts that sounds great and that I really want to apply for (and some that I have applied for) but then I’m starting to get bummed out. Partly because of my rocky confidence and constant fight with the imposter syndrome, but also because even at ads that say they’re looking for juniors and are at entry level, they’re still requiring 2–3 years of experience in the field. I talked to my career mentor and he said he has been working as a developer for 4 years and is counted as a senior. With 2–3 years of experience you’re not really a junior any more. I know I’m supposed to ignore that and apply anyway, but it still really bums me out. Why doesn’t people want to take on juniors? We might not be experts but we will probably have learned the newest and most modern techniques. We just need a foot in to prove ourselves and then we’ll soon be experts too!

The other thing is remote work. I thought with corona and the restrictions, more companies would realize that letting your employees work for home isn’t such a bad idea. I’ve seen a lot of people saying that it would be perfect if you could have a mix of working in the office and work from home. I’ve seen job ads that are for remote work, but then they add “until corona is over”. Why stop then? I’m living in a remote place where job opportunities are sparse, and event though I have realized that I can’t stay here and be unemployed for the rest of my life, and wouldn’t mind working in an office at all, I would still love the chance to not having to pack up my family and move across the country if I don’t have to.

So to sum it up: Final project is going great! Yay! (And we actually have a client so our product will hopefully be used by a lot of people. Double-yay!) Job searching: not so much yay yet. But I’m not giving up hope! Somewhere out there is my dream-job at a dream-company, just waiting for me! I just hope I will find it soon. I’m so excited to start working and use my skills!

Meme for tax.
